Leadership I – Building a Strong Foundation
The first module in the Leadership seminar series provides an in-depth look at the discipline of leadership, beginning with a discussion of whether leadership is learned or genetic.
Participants spend time developing an understanding of models of leadership, including situational, authentic and servant leadership. A significant portion of class time is spent learning about the roles and styles of leaders, including how those have changed over the years and what is necessary to be successful in today’s world.
A section of the seminar is devoted to a brief look at leadership practices of William H. Swanson, chairman and CEO of Raytheon. Though he later admitted to plagiarizing many of those principles, they still are applicable to the successful practice of leadership.
Class methodology involves a PowerPoint presentation, large and small group discussion of principles, small group activities and a leadership video.
Dr. Jimmy Richardson, Richardson Consulting, Starkville.
