7/15/2005 - MMA Praises Legislature for Quick Passage of Baxter Health Care Incentives
JACKSON, Miss. (July 15, 2005) The Mississippi Manufacturers Association is praising the quick action of the state Legislature in approving a $14 million incentive package for the expansion of long-time MMA member Baxter Health Care in Cleveland. “We are pleased at the quick passage of legislation to keep the commitments made earlier to one of Mississippi’s largest employers,” said MMA President and CEO Jay C. Moon, CEcD. “This is a Fortune 500 company that chose more than 50 years ago to invest in Mississippi, hire Mississippians and pay taxes here. “The support to upgrade Baxter Health Care is in line with the aims of the Momentum Mississippi economic development package passed earlier this month. Momentum recognizes the importance of supporting existing manufacturers who must invest in new technology to withstand international competition,” Moon said. “The Legislature’s swift action is good for the companies, the communities and the state at large and will help grow jobs here.” The incentive package to Baxter Health Care includes a $4 million grant and up to $10 million in loans for a plant expansion.
