4/25/2005 - MMA 2005 Human Resources & Safety Conference focuses on current laws, safety practices for the workplace

More than 70 attended MMA’s annual Human Resources & Safety Conference and Expo March 29-30 at the Hilton Hotel in Jackson. Keynote speakers for the conference were Bruce S. Wilkinson of Workplace Consultants, Inc., in Gretna, La., who discussed “Developing and Implementing a Safety/Human Resource Culture and Climate of Personal Responsibilities,” and Mark Head of HR Tech Suite in Dallas, Texas, who discussed “Market Trends and Cost Savings Strategies for Health Insurance.” Breakout sessions during the two-day event covered the following topics:

  • OSHA updates.
  • Mississippi workers compensation law.
  • Safe work practices.
  • Handling information requests.
  • Respect in the workplace.
  • Health care.
Those leading the breakout sessions were:
  • Clyde Payne, Courtney Bohannon & Eugene Stewart, OSHA, Jackson, Miss.
  • Jennifer R. Guckert, The Kullman Firm, Jackson.
  • Rob Gerlach, The VTA Group, Wilmington, N.C.
  • Ronnie Fulcher, HASCATS, Canton, Miss.
  • Ann Sinn, OFCCP, Jackson
  • Pepper Crutcher, Balch & Bingham, Jakcson.
  • Byron Faust, Strategic Solutions Group, Slidell, La.
In addition to those registered for the conference, 18 vendors participated in the conference expo. This year’s conference was successful on many levels, say members of the MMA membership and educational services staff. And one measure of success can be determined by the comments of the conference participants. Melissa Drennan, HR manager for Systems Electro Coating in Madison, e-mailed the staff following the event, saying, “This past Safety and HR conference was the best I have attended. I left each day with more useful information than any other conference I have attended! Good job to the MMA staff who worked to make it such a success!” To view photos from this year’s conference, download the PDF file on this page.
