The MMA Chairman’s Award is a $10,000 gift that has been presented each year since 1998 at the end of each chairman’s term to an educational institution chosen by the outgoing chairman.
Taylor's Chairman's Award gift was matched 100 percent per a challenge by MSU alumnus Richard C. Adkerson in 2008.
“The MMA Chairman’s Award represents the MMA’s commitment to education in Mississippi,” said Jay C. Moon, CEcD, FM, MMA president and CEO. “We recognize that a well-educated, well-trained workforce is the key to bringing industry to the state and remaining competitive in our global economy. We hope this gift to the Mississippi State University College of Business Notable Scholars Fund will enable the University to recruit, reward and retain faculty members who will lead students to further their educations and embody these goals.”
Taylor joined Reed Manufacturing in 1979. Taylor has served on the MMA board of directors since 2003 and as a member of the MMA executive committee since 2004. He also has served on the MMA Work Comp Group board of directors since 1991, serving as chairman from July 1993 until December 2003.
Taylor served on the Tupelo City Council from 1997 to 2005. He is past president of the United Way of Northeast Mississippi and the Tupelo Kiwanis Club. He also serves as a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church in Tupelo.
Taylor is a 1962 graduate of Mississippi State University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He was a distinguished military graduate of MSU ROTC, commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. He served from 1962 to 1965 as a missile trajectory officer at Strategic Air Command Headquarters, Offutt Air Force Base, in Omaha, Neb.
