4/29/2008 - Former MMA Chairman Dewitte Belk Dies

Former MMA Chairman of the Board Dewitte Belk, 72, owner of Mitchell Metal Products, died Saturday, April 26, 2008 at St. Dominic/Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson.

Dewitte was born in Ethel, Miss., Nov. 9, 1935. He was married for 52 years to Doris Hood Belk. He owned and operated Mitchell Metal Products for 37 years. Dewitte was a member of First Baptist Church in Kosciusko where he served on various committees including the long-range planning committee and the house and grounds committee.

Dewitte was a member of the Holmes Community College Board of Trustees for 22 years and was currently serving as vice president of the board. He was the 1994 recipient of the NCRD Region IV Benefactor of the Year award. He was a member of the Holmes Community College Foundation Board of Directors and Board of Governors.

Dewitte was a long-time member of the Mississippi Manufacturers Association, where he served as chairman for 1997-1998. He also was a member of the Air Distribution Institute. He was a member of the Mississippi Home Builders Association and served on the Regions Bank North Mississippi Advisory Board.

Dewitte will long be remembered among the people who knew him and loved him for his friendship, honesty, and integrity.

Survivors include: his wife, Doris Ann Hood Belk; daughters, Julie Belk Taylor and her husband, Gerry, and Jennifer Belk Cheek and her husband, Jerry, all of Kosciusko; brother, Johnny Belk of Ethel; sister, Myra Dew of Ethel; grandchildren, Anna Claire Taylor, Gerry Austin Taylor, Jessica Elise Cheek, Victoria Ann Cheek and Madison Jerry Cheek, all of Kosciusko.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Colon Belk, and parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hood.
