11/1/2007 - George M. Taylor Named Chairman of Mississippi Manufacturers Association; 2007-08 Executive Committee, New Board Members Announced
Oct. 22, 2007) George Taylor of Tupelo has been named 2007-2008 chairman of the Mississippi Manufacturers Association. Taylor is vice president of finance, Reed Manufacturing Company in Tupelo. “This year, much of MMA’s focus will be on communicating to high school students and their parents the many career opportunities available in the manufacturing industry,” said Taylor. “We will be working with our members and our educational institutions to develop state-of-the-art, market-driven training to insure our current and future workforce are prepared for the jobs of the 21st century.” Taylor has served as vice president of finance for Reed Manufacturing since 1979. He previously served as president and general manager of Savings and Loan Industry and as a systems analyst for Central Service Association, both in Tupelo. Taylor has served on the MMA board of directors since 2003 and as a member of the MMA executive committee since 2004. He also has served on the MMA Work Comp Group board of directors since 1991, serving as chairman from July 1993 until December 2003. Taylor served on the Tupelo City Council from 1997 to 2005. He is president of the United Way of Northeast Mississippi and a past president of the Tupelo Kiwanis Club. He also serves as a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church in Tupelo. Taylor is a 1962 graduate of Mississippi State University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He was a distinguished military graduate of he MSU ROTC, commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. He served from 1962 to 1965 as a missile trajectory officer at Strategic Air Command Headquarters, Offutt Air Force Base, in Omaha, Neb.
